In a world that tells us you are only worth it if you buy this product or look this way,
In a world where we long for someone to tell us we have value,
That they will fight for us,
That we matter,
It’s good to be reminded that we are worth it.
Worth it to Jesus, as he hung from the cross.
As passersby shout out to him, “Come down from the cross and save yourself! …He saved others, but he can’t save himself! Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.”
He could have come down.
He could have proved them wrong.
But he stayed.
He hung.
He was tortured.
Humiliated.
Brutalized.
Mocked.
Naked.
Back torn open.
Beard ripped off.
Thorns pressed into his skull.
The saliva of mockers dripping from his face.
For you.
And for me.
Because we are that worth it to God.
You see, we rebelled against our Creator King.
We separated ourselves from him with our sin.
But he came.
He pursued us.
And he died in our place.
He paid the penalty that our sins deserved.
So that we could be forgiven.
So that our sins could be no more.
We are that worth it to God.
What looked like God’s greatest failure was in fact his greatest victory.
Victory over sin, and 3 days later, victory of death.
So that we might live.
So when you’re feeling like you’re not worth it.
Remember the one who says you are.
