An Iranian friend of mine and member of my church is finishing his PhD this spring (this is a different friend than my refugee friend I interviewed in a previous blog post, who is also a member of my church). His student visa will be expired so he must go back to his home country of Iran. He became a Christian while he was here in the United States. If he goes back to Iran as a former Muslim who has converted Christianity, there is a very good chance he will be imprisoned and/or could even be killed for this if the wrong Muslims found out. He is seeking Asylum in the United States. He has found a good lawyer who has had a lot of previous success attaining Asylum for former Muslims under similar circumstances. The lawyer’s service charges would be $5,000.00 total ($3,000.00 upfront, $2,000.00 later). My Iranian friend has $1000 he can pay toward this, but needs the other $2000 (for the $3000 upfront) within the next two weeks or he will be forced to go back to Iran.
Can you donate to help keep my friend attain legal Asylum here in the United States?
If you don’t use PayPal or want to avoid the service charge, you can mail a check to Crossroads Church, 105 W. Allegan St., Lansing MI 48933.
If you’d like more information on the legal process of Asylum in the United States, please visit http://www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/refugees-asylum/asylum or if you have any questions about the situation, feel free to contact me.
THANK YOU!
