God does not look good in a bikini.
God does not have the perfect body.
God is not sexy.
God is not a movie star.
God is not an athlete.
God is not a model.
God is not a celebrity.
God doesn’t write paychecks.
God is not a retirement plan.
God is not a title.
God is not a status symbol.
God is not applause.
God is not perfect health.
God is not a degree.
Our problem is we look for what only God can give us in so many places that can never deliver on their promises.
If we can’t find God in any of these places, where can we find him? The answer to that question is found in Colossians 1:15-20…
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
If we are worshiping idols, it means Jesus is very small.
But Jesus isn’t small.
Jesus is God.
And it’s only in Jesus we can find what only God can give us.
Philippians 3:8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ
